Junior Counselor Week |
Description:
Junior Counselor Week is specially designed for our "veteran" campers who are looking to take their skills to the next level. Campers will have the opportunity to learn guiding skills, develop lifelong leadership skills, and practice mentorship techniques in our other camp sessions as Junior Counselors! This week will include the most popular activities offered by River Riders as well as education toward the white water guide profession. Campers who successfully complete this week will be eligible for employment at River Riders at age 18.
The schedule for the typical week is as follows:
Monday: "Wake up call" activity
Bakerton activities:
-teambuilding
-introduce Jr Counselor manuels
-introduce recreation infomercial project and groups
lunch
white water rafting
-Jr Counselors prepare, load, and clean up equipment
-review river safety while on water
-daily debriefing on bus ride
Tuesday: "wake up call" activity AM Leadership training at Bakerton
- review expectations for Junior Counselors
- how to be a leader
- review Jr Guide manuels
- break into infomercial groups
-- brainstorm
-- obtain counselor approval
-- prepare "scripts" lunch PM white water tubing - teambuilding games while on the water incorporated with activity daily debriefing on bus ride Wednesday "wake up call" AM Harpers Ferry hike - introduce 3 historical points of interest - riverside hydrology/ecology lesson Swiss Miss Ice Cream Shop stop (campers bring $) Lunch PM Bakerton activities - Break into skit groups to rehearse - paddle inflatable canoe, games, swimming daily debriefing Thursday "wake up call" AM kayak instruction at Bakerton - brief introduction to the sport, terminology, equipment - how to best instruct a beginner -- introduce positive reinforcement, praise, constructive criticism, learn by example techniques Lunch PM - film recreation infomercials - kayak paddle course at Bakerton Friday "wake up call" full day rafting Lunch on water Check Out evaluations for Junior Counselors/ debriefing pizza party/ watch skits

$199.00
$50 per week for shuttle pickups and drop offs in Harpers Ferry, Charles Town, Shepherdstown, Martinsburg, Hagerstown, Frederick, Leesburg, Gaithersburg, Berryville, or Winchester*
*Must have at least 4 campers or $200 minimum per location

Discounts:
when booked in advance and with prepayment only:
2-3 sessions $10 per week
4-5 sessions $15 per week
6-7 sessions $20 per week
8-9 sessions $25 per week
10-11 sessions $30 per week |
Times:
Monday-Friday - 8:30 AM-4:30 PM
Drop off is from 8-8:45 am and pick up is from 4:30-5:30 pm unless other arrangements are made. |

Notes: Campers may be divided according to age and ability levels for activities.
