All Ages Recreation Offerings with River Riders offered by
Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities
Are you looking for outdoor adventure? Do you want to learn a new sport, but don't know here to start? Join River Riders for a single day activity, offered most Saturdays May-September. Activities include: rock climbing, orienteering, white water tubing, rafting, and kayaking, as well as transportation to and from Alexandria. Get a group of friends together or sign up to meet new people. River Riders will pick up at Chinquapin Park Recreation Center in Alexandria at 9 am. Return times vary based on the activity and will be approximated upon booking. All offerings require little to no prior experience, although participants should be in relatively good physical condition and should not be afraid or water or heights (for rock climbing). River Riders reserves the right to change any activity, location, or date in order to provide our patrons with the best experience possible. Participants need only bring themselves and appropriate clothing to get wet; River Riders will take care of the rest!
*For events outside of Alexandria a shuttle pick up will be provided by River Riders.

2012 Sessions:
ZipLine Canopy Tour
Zip line enthusiasts don’t have to wait for summer to enjoy their favorite, thrilling activity! Spring canopy tours offer a spectacular view of beautiful, budding landscapes, crisp clear skies and a lovely sparkling river! Alexandria residents have the opportunity to zip away to a breathtaking spring adventure! Participants will enjoy a brisk, bird’s eye view of the Potomac River shoreline and Historical Harpers Ferry from the top of the season’s canopy. With 7 zips, 2 bridges, ladders, and a rappel, this 2.5 - 3 hour tour cures your cabin fever! Guests should dress in layers, wear gloves, hats, and secure sneakers or boots. No loose clothing. Our trips depart from River Riders Inc in Harpers Ferry, WV at 11 am. Participants are asked to check in 45 minutes prior to their departure. Spring has sprung to new heights, only an hour away!

Orienteering: (All Ages)
Outdoor Adventure for All Ages & Experience Levels Does an exhilarating hike and an exciting treasure hunt sound like a great way to spend a spring day? Discover the enjoyment of running a beginners orienteering course with River Riders Inc and Alexandria Parks and Rec. Orienteering is a competitive hiking experience that leads you through beautiful, natural scenery while challenging you with problem solving and land navigation. The object is to locate as many “control” points within a given amount of time by using a map, compass, and series of clues. Families, couples, and individuals are welcome to compete. Come satisfy your need for recreation at Ben Brenman Park with one of our most popular activities, suitable for all ages and experience levels! River Riders will provide a brief instruction on Orienteering basics, followed by a 90 minute scores course. River Riders will provide a map and a compass for you to use while running the course.

Saturday Family Adventure Getaways in June!
If zip lining through lush tree tops and tubing on beautiful WV waterways aren’t on your family fun agenda this summer, its time to visit River Riders to take advantage of this special offering, only for those living in Alexandria, Va! On select weekends in June, residents have the opportunity enjoy a day of excitement just for families! First, soar over 50 feet in the air for a bird’s eye view of the Potomac River shoreline and Historical Harpers Ferry while you zip line through lovely, riverside canopy. Afterwards, stop for a fresh picnic style lunch at the outfitter before tubing on your choice of relaxing flat water or exciting white water for plenty of splashing and sunshine. Participants will meet at River Riders at 10 am in Harpers Ferry for a full day of adventure. It’s time to get out of the city for some fresh air, because summer is the best time to make memories with those you love the most!

Family Adventure Getaways in September!
Flat Water or White Water River Tubing
Just because summer is almost over, doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy a river tubing trip! On September 18th join River Riders for either a flat water or white water tubing trip, as our rivers’ stay a comfortable 75 degrees through October! This trip is unguided. Participants should dress to get wet, with secure shoes. No flip flops, or bare feet! Floating coolers and tubes to put your own coolers in are available to rent. Our flat water trip is a mild, relaxing 1- 1.5 hour activity great for families with children ages 3 and/ or 30 lbs and up. Our trip departs at 11:30 am, please check in at River Riders in Harpers Ferry by 10:45! Our white water tubing trip is recommended for families looking for an exciting experience, in good physical condition, with children at least 12 years old and 5 ft tall! Our trip departs at 10:30 am, please check in at River Riders in Harpers Ferry by 9:45 am.

White Water Rafting on the River
Our most popular rafting trip is a perfect way for the family to spend the day together on September 25th, while paddling a beautiful section of mild white water! This trip is typically very beginner friendly in the fall. First timers and intermediates looking for a tame experience will enjoy a day of play with a personable, professional river guide! Depending on river conditions, we may be able to accommodate children 30 lbs and up! Those looking to increase the challenge of the experience can request an inflatable kayak called a duckie, for more one on one white water action! Participants should dress to get wet, with secure shoes. No flip flops, or bare feet! Our trip departs at 10 am, please check in at River Riders in Harpers Ferry by 9 am.

River Side Zip Line Canopy Tour
If zip lining through lush, tree tops aren’t on your family fun agenda this fall, its time to visit River Riders to take advantage of this special offering, only for those living in Alexandria, Va! On October 1st, residents have the opportunity to take part in a day of excitement just for families! Enjoy a bird’s eye view of the Potomac River shoreline and Historical Harpers Ferry while zipping through our NEW riverside canopy. Participants will meet at River Riders for roughly 3 hours of adventure in the beautiful fall canopy. With 7 zips, 2 bridges, ladders, and a repel, this tour is one of a kind! Participants should wear t-shirts, comfortable shorts or pants, and closed toe shoes. Trips depart every hour between 9 am and 3 pm. We can accommodate 8 guests at a time.
