Are you looking for outdoor adventure? Do you want to learn a new sport, but don't know here to start? Join River Riders for a single day activitiy, offered most Saturdays May-September. Activties include: rock climbing, orienteering, white water tubing, rafting, and kayaking, as well as transportation to and from Alexandria. Get a group of friends together or sign up to meet new people. River Riders will pick up at Chinquapin Park Recreation Center in Alexandria at 9 am. Return times vary based on the activity and will be approximated upon booking. All offerings require little to no prior experience, although participants should be in relatively good physical condition and should not be afraid or water or heights (for rock climbing). River Riders reserves the right to change any activity, location, or date in order to provide our patrons with the best experience possible. Participants need only bring themselves and appropriate clothing to get wet; River Riders will take care of the rest!

Adult Recreation Sessions:

Rock Climbing:
Price: $129
This is a beginner rock climbing program at Crescent Rock along the Appalachian Trail in WV. Participants will have the opportunity to encounter the physical and mental challenges of climbing a natural rock face while under the supervision of a certified facilitator. Rain dates for rock climbing are 5/23, 10/3. Minimum participation 10, maximum 15.

 

Orienteering:
Price: $119
Run a beginner level orienteering course after a brief lesson on compass and map reading, and navigation techniques. Make it to as many check points as you can by using your tools and decision making skills to plan the most effective route through the lovely rolling terrain of West Virginia's Shenandoah Mountains. This activity is rain or shine. Minimum participation 10, maximum 30.

 

White Water Tubing:
Price: $59
Our most popular activity, white water tubing, is an unguided trip on the Potomac River that takes you and your comfortable vinyl tube through beautiful historic Harpers Ferry on class I-III rapids. This trip typically takes about 1.5 to 2 hrs to complete. Minimum participation 10.

 

White Water Rafting:
Price: $109
Enjoy the beginner to intermediate excitement of class I-III white water while in a raft with one of our fun and certified guides. Our guides will maneuver your boat through some of the best rapids the river has to offer while you participate in mild paddling and enjoy the breathtaking sights of the historic Harpers Ferry area. This trip may be run on either the Shenandoah or Potomac River and may take up to 3.5 hours depending on the best route for the day. Minimum participation 10.

 

White Water Kayaking:
Price: $109
This is our most adventurous trip option, best for those looking for white water excitement and a more challenging adventure. Our white water kayaks are inflatable which makes them more stable and require little to no previous experience, although guests are recommended to be in good physical condition for this paddle. Your guide will provide you with a brief instruction on equipment usage before they lead you through class I-III white water on either the Shenandoah or Potomac rivers. This trip is an excellent choice for the more independent adventure seekers! Minimum participation 10.

 

Participants need to dress appopriately for each activity: swim suits, river shoes, towels, and a change of clothes for water activities, and athletic comfortable shoes for land activities..

To register for an Adult Rec Program, each person will need to complete a liability form. You can either fax or bring it with you the day of your trip.
